CONSUMED

April 17 - May 30, 2026

We are very excited to announce our latest exhibition, J Myszka Lewis: CONSUMED, which is on view from Friday, April 17th through May 30th, 2026. Please join us for our opening reception on Friday, April 17th from 5-8PM at One-Off Exhibitions.

J Myszka Lewisworks across print media, painting, and drawing. Pulling from classic still-life and flower paintings, her work uses pattern and repetition to collapse and complicate depictions of time. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, Lewis is also a curator at Tandem Press.

CONSUMED features four mixed-media paintings that explore consumption and obsession. In these psychological landscapes, glistening fruits take center stage, illustrating consumption as nourishment and indulgence. Lizards dart at passing butterflies and sip the golden yolks of broken eggs, alluding to the darker side of consumption as predation and ruin. In each piece, the composition's center is duplicated and mirrored horizontally and vertically, stretching across imagined walls, ceilings, and floors like surreal wallpaper. The forced perspective of this implied room not only contains the conceptual world but also pulls the viewer irresistibly into it.

J Myszka Lewis received her BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (2010) and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2015). She has shown her work in solo exhibitions throughout the Midwest and participated in many group exhibitions at places such as the International Print Center New York (New York, NY), Charles Allis Art Museum (Milwaukee, WI), Soap Factory (Minneapolis, MN), Museum of Wisconsin Art (West Bend, WI), Trout Museum of Art (Appleton, WI), and the Chazen Museum of Art (Madison, WI). She has participated in residencies at the Jentel Foundation and the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts. She has been a finalist for the Luminarts Cultural Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship, the Hopper Prize, and the Forward Art Prize. In 2018, she received the Edna Wiechers Art in Wisconsin Art from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Division of the Arts. Her work is included in private collections as well as the corporate collections of the Bank of Kaukauna, UW Health, and Fidelity Investments.
